Articular Cartilage Injury of the Knee
نویسنده
چکیده
Articular Cartilage Injury of the Knee manages to concisely bridge the translational gap from the basic science of articular cartilage and cartilage injury all the way through to current techniques of chondral repair/reconstruction. It is a beautifully illustrated and very nicely presented update on the diagnosis and planning, the basic science and techniques, and the postoperative management and outcomes of modern chondral surgery. A wide array of authors, notably from North America, Italy and Belgium, have come together to succinctly present the key features of chondral injury in the knee, its characterisation both in terms of imaging and surgery and the potential solutions that are available from a scientifi c and a clinical perspective. The book covers the state of the art but also allows some room for visionary thinking around the future of functional chondral imaging, the role for new biomarkers and stem cell type interventions. It also quite rightly focuses on rehabilitation and not just on the role of surgery. The authors have included some high quality radiographs and illustrations. The chapters have been trimmed to make them easily palatable and understood. The references are up to date and appropriate. This book achieves its aims of combining a contemporary summary of the applied basic science, the latest in surgical and implant innovation, new philosophies, techniques and rehabilitation principles. It is an excellent resource for every orthopaedic surgeon but also for any scientist, sports doctor or therapist who is interested in this area or involved in the care of patients with chondral disease. Outcome of ACL Reconstruction and Concomitant Articular Injury Treatment
Background: Articular cartilage injuries are a common clinical problem at the time of ACL reconstruction with an incidence rate of 16-46%. Good results of ACL reconstruction combined with the treatment of chondral lesions have been published in some studies. Method: After statistical analysis 30 patients were selected and divided in 2 groups. TheFfirst group consisted of 15 patients wite isol...
متن کاملExperimental Study on Protective Role of NSAID on Articular Cartilage Destruction in Septic Arthritis
Background: Surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of treatment protocols in septic arthritis; however, in some circumstances, the diagnosis and initiation of treatment may be retarded by slow disease progression or the time when the patient’s condition precludes early surgery. Therefore, it is beneficial to find ways to reduce the amount of articular injury. This study a...
متن کاملSave the Meniscus, A Good Strategy to Preserve the Knee
With increasing life expectancy, the demand for preservation of native articular cartilage is increasing to delay joint arthroplasties. In the knee, there are many different strategies to preserve the articular cartilage including but not limited to corrective osteotomies, chondral injury restoration, intraarticular injection of cells or growth factors(PRP). However, One of the most important s...
متن کاملConditioned medium derived from mesenchymal Stem cells regenerates’ defected articular cartilage
Background & Aims: One of cell- based technical issues associated with cartilage repair assay is delivering cells to the site of the parts where damage is created. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with their chondrogenic potential are ideal candidates for cartilage regeneration. High expression of cartilage hypertrophy markers by MSCs would result in apoptosis and ossification. This investigation ...
متن کاملThe Role of Gene Therapy in Cartilage Repair
The key principle of gene delivery to articulations by direct intra-articular injection is to release complementary DNA(cDNA)-encoding medical products that will lead to maintained, endogenous production of the gene products withinthe articulation. In fact, this has been accomplished for both in vivo and ex vivo gene delivery, using several vectors, genes, and cells in some animal models. Some c...
متن کاملRehabilitation of articular lesions in the athlete's knee.
Articular cartilage lesions of the knee joint are common in patients of varying ages. Some articular cartilage lesions are focal lesions located on one aspect of the tibiofemoral or patellofemoral joint. Other lesions can be extremely large or involve multiple compartments of the knee joint and these are often referred to as osteoarthritis. There are numerous potential causes for the developmen...
